Mixology based on the 4 elements: air, earth, fire and water

More than 2,000 years ago, Greek philosophers created the theory that our universe and
everything it encompassed was made up of four basic elements: water, earth, fire, and air. Taboo
Tulum mixology is based on this concept, which takes us through experiences that give pleasure to
all the senses.

According to this Hellenic thought, the balance between the elements formed the basis of good
health and harmony. This is why we drew inspiration from this idea to create a mixology menu in
which expert mixologists worked to bring to life a wide range of creative artisan cocktails, with
natural ingredients and homemade infusions.

Based on the fact that each Greek philosopher defended the element that, he considered, was the
beginning of things, it is important to know that the first of them was Thales of Miletus, who held
that the primary element was water, a cold and wet element at the same time, where the earth is
a kind of "island" along which we float.

The fluidity of this element is reflected in two cocktails from the Taboo Tulum mixology: our
Santorini Sunrise, a mixture of vodka, figs from the Mediterranean, honey from Mount Himeto and
cranberry juice; and the Saint Tropez Breezee drink, consisting of Prosecco St. Germain wine,
lemongrass, and dehydrated citrus garnish.

After Thales, another thinker was Anaximenes, who considered air to be the primary element,
being both moist and hot, invisible and infinite, and encompassing the entire cosmos, traversing all
things and holding us together.

According to this philosopher, air flows between us, so our mixology inspired by him consists of
two cocktails served with liquid nitrogen: Voodoo, a drink with Ron Malibu, coconut water,
banana liqueur, cinnamon and evaporated milk; and Black Mist, made up of Geneva, Aperol, citrus
infusion, activated carbon and mineral spring water.

Our elemental journey continues with fire, considered essential by Heraclitus, who believed that
everything flows, changes and is in constant transformation; it is both hot and dry. This universal
fire that regenerates everything, down to the water and the earth, is represented in the mixology
of Taboo Tulum with fiery and passionate drinks.

One of our visitors' favorites is The Alchemist, a cocktail of believing Mezcal, mango, cucumber,
ginger, mint and flamed fruit; and the other inspired by this element is Goblet of Fire, a mixture of
Stolichnaya Vodka, Angostura bitter, sliced pineapple, Sicilian lemon, and a homemade spice

Finally, the philosopher Xenophanes considered that the earth is the beginning and the end of all
things. Our mixology was inspired by the belief that it is a dry and cold element at the same time,
that's why our drinks play with this sensory experience.

The cocktails inspired by this element are the Paradise Found, which includes Mezcal with basil,
cucumber, cardamom, lemon, and Curaçao liquor; and the Bellisimo, a drink of Geneva Beefeater,
Green Chartreuse, infusion of holy Matcha leaf and Sicilian lemon.

From the primordial and the elemental, Taboo Tulum is an experience designed for the pleasure of
all the senses. Colors, aromas, and flavors, combined with a wonderful view and the latest in
contemporary music, create a relaxed yet eclectic atmosphere, leading to an unforgettable multi-
sensory experience. Come and live this Mediterranean experience!
